Background

Audiovox Electronics Corporation was the first company to offer a vehicle security and remote start product that could be operated from a touchtone phone when they introduced Car Link over 15 years ago. When it came time to bring Car Link into the 21st century they turned to SpinDance to develop the communication architecture and network, server application, and mobile user interfaces to literally put vehicle control in the palm of your hand - anywhere, anytime.

SpinDance delivered a robust, reliable solution which Audiovox had the confidence to distribute throughout their extensive retail and expediter channels and to approach the dealer accessory channel where the highest level of quality and reliability is required. In addition, the Car Link offering launched with the most extensive smart phone coverage of any remote start application on the market.

Expertise Utilized

The Car Link program combined several areas of expertise to offer a solution that not many companies can achieve. Our M2M expertise came into play as we put together a communications network and software back end to communicate to vehicles using IP over cellular. We deployed a Ruby application at the server level with a simple web interface for Car Link dealers to install and activate Car Link units for customers. The mobile applications to control the remote start and security features of Car Link were written for iPhone, Android and BlackBerry. SpinDance assisted Audiovox with all the requirements for releasing the mobile applications in their respective stores under the Audiovox brand.

Services Included

SpinDance provided the software development services and project management services for the developed solution, including the integration with the cellular hardware manufacturer. Upon completion of development, SpinDance deployed the production solution and continues to provide everything from Web Application Hosting to Cellular Network Service to Technical Support. The Cellular Network Service includes the provisioning of SIM cards, activation, wholesale data procurement and management and connectivity monitoring.
